Hüseyin Güney, MD

Hüseyin Güney, MD is a General Surgery specialist who sees patients at Acibadem Etiler Outpatient Clinic and Acibadem Atasehir Hospital, both in İstanbul. Dr. Güney attended Konya Anadolu High School from 1977 to 1984 and studied medicine at Ege University Faculty of Medicine between 1984 and 1990. He completed his residency training in General Surgery at İzmir Training and Research Hospital in 1998. From 1998 to 2002 he worked at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital, and in 2002 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services, where he has practiced since. The main area of Dr. Güney’s practice is the evaluation and treatment of hemorrhoids and other anorectal diseases. Patients are usually referred with symptoms such as bleeding, pain, swelling or discomfort in the anal region. Because several anorectal conditions can produce similar complaints, a careful history and a clinical examination form the basis of the assessment, and additional tests may be requested when needed to clarify the diagnosis. The choice between conservative measures and a procedure depends on the type and stage of the condition, the severity of symptoms and the patient’s overall health, and this is discussed with each patient individually.

Alongside his anorectal work, Dr. Güney provides general surgical care. As in all surgical decision-making, he weighs the expected benefit of an intervention against its risks and explains the alternatives, so that patients can take part in the decision about how to proceed. Where a condition falls outside his area of practice, patients are directed to the appropriate colleague.

How Dr. Güney works with international patients

Dr. Güney consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound, CT or MRI reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. For patients who are not yet able to travel, a video consultation can be arranged as an initial step; this allows Dr. Güney to review the available records and discuss the general direction of care, while a definitive plan for anorectal conditions usually still requires an in-person examination.
