Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ada

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ada is an otorhinolaryngology specialist at Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul, where he practises in the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit. His clinical work covers ear, nose and throat conditions in adults and children, including sinusitis, hearing loss, snoring, adenoid conditions, paediatric hearing loss and tonsil surgery.

Dr. Ada graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1982. He first worked as a general practitioner at S.S.K. Zonguldak Hospital Regional Dispensary (1982–1984) and at S.S.K. Osmaniye Dispensary, İstanbul (1984–1986). In 1986 he joined the İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Ear, Nose and Throat Department, where he completed his specialty training in Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases in 1991. He was appointed Associate Professor in 1995, the same year he became a faculty member of the department, and was appointed Professor in 2001. He has worked with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2007. He is a member of the Turkish Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Association, the Turkish Ear, Nose and Throat and Head and Neck Surgery Foundation, the European Academy of Otology and Neuro-Otology and the Turkish Medical Association, among other professional bodies. His published work includes articles on middle ear fluid findings in children with otitis media with effusion, the management of isolated sphenoiditis, hoarseness and laryngopharyngeal reflux, and several ENT case reports in peer-reviewed journals.

Clinical focus

Dr. Ada assesses and treats sinusitis, including cases where symptoms persist or recur despite earlier treatment. In the field of hearing, he sees adults with hearing loss as well as children with paediatric hearing loss, where evaluation typically involves a careful history, examination of the ear and a review of any hearing tests already performed. He also evaluates snoring and related upper-airway complaints, taking into account possible contributing factors in the nose, palate and throat.

In children, his work includes adenoid conditions and tonsil surgery. Whether surgery is appropriate is decided on an individual basis after clinical examination and discussion with the family, and non-surgical options are considered where relevant. Across all of these areas, treatment recommendations follow from the findings of the consultation and any imaging or test results that are available.

How Dr. Ada works with international patients

Dr. Ada consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as CT or MRI reports, hearing test results, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
