Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif Somdaş

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif Somdaş is an otorhinolaryngology specialist at Acibadem Kayseri Hospital in Kayseri, where he practices in the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit. He has more than 32 years of experience in medicine. Dr. Somdaş graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1994 and completed his specialization in ear, nose and throat diseases at the Erciyes University, Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic between 1995 and 2000. From 2004 to 2005 he was a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University, Mass Eye Ear Infirmary. In 2016 he earned a doctorate in Audiology and Speech Disorders from Turgut Özal University.

His career began as a general practitioner at Kayseri Yıldırım Beyazıt Health Center (1994–1995). After completing his specialization, he worked as a specialist physician at the SSK Sivas Regional Hospital, Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic from 2000 to 2002. He then returned to the Erciyes University Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic, where he served as lecturer, assistant professor and associate professor before being appointed professor in 2015. Between 2010 and 2013 he was Clinical Chief at Kayseri Training and Research Hospital, and from 2013 to 2014 he served there as Training Officer. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2018. Dr. Somdaş is a member of the Kayseri KBB Association, the Schuknecht Society and the Otoloji Nörotoloji Association. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on topics including gentamicin- and cisplatin-related ototoxicity in experimental models, auditory brainstem implants, sudden sensorineural hearing loss, nasal polyposis and postoperative pain after septoplasty.

Clinical focus

Dr. Somdaş treats a broad range of ear, nose and throat conditions. In otology and neurotology, his work includes cochlear implants, cholesteatoma surgery, and the assessment and management of vertigo and balance disorders. His research background in audiology and inner ear protection informs his approach to hearing-related complaints.

His nasal and sinus practice covers septoplasty, rhinoplasty, septorhinoplasty, nasal surgery and sinus surgery, as well as the evaluation of snoring. In the throat and head and neck area, he performs tonsillectomy and adenoid surgery and is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of laryngeal cancer. Treatment recommendations depend on the individual assessment, and surgery is not appropriate for every patient.
