Prof. Dr. Mehmet Aytaç Yüksel

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Aytaç Yüksel is a specialist in Gynecology & Obstetrics at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. His subspecialty is perinatology and high-risk pregnancies, and his practice centers on pregnancy monitoring, detailed pregnancy ultrasound and the management of pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, placenta previa and placenta accreta. He has more than 23 years of experience in medicine and is a member of the Turkish Gynecology and Obstetrics Association.

Dr. Yüksel graduated from Karadeniz Teknik University Faculty of Medicine in 2003. From 2004 to 2009 he completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health İstanbul Training and Research Hospital, qualifying as a specialist in 2009. He then worked as a specialist doctor at Ministry of Health Büyükçekmece State Hospital, with a part-time temporary assignment at İstanbul Training and Research Hospital, before joining the Division of Perinatology at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, where he trained from 2011 to 2015 and completed his perinatology subspecialty in 2014. In the same year he took part in an observership program at King’s College Hospital, Hanis Birthright Fetal Medicine, in London. After compulsory service as a perinatology subspecialty specialist at Ministry of Health Şanlıurfa Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital (2015–2016), he became an Associate Professor in 2016 and worked in the Department of Perinatology at Ministry of Health İstanbul Health Sciences University Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Training and Research Hospital.

Clinical focus

Dr. Yüksel provides obstetric and perinatology care with an emphasis on pregnancies that carry additional risk. His areas of expertise include pregnancy monitoring, detailed pregnancy ultrasound, and the assessment and follow-up of conditions such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, placenta previa and placenta accreta, as well as the management of ectopic pregnancy. He also supports patients with delivery planning, including epidural delivery, cesarean delivery and water birth, with the approach discussed on the basis of each patient’s clinical situation.

His published research reflects these interests. It includes studies on shear wave elastography of the placenta in placenta previa-accreta and in gestational diabetes mellitus, maternal serum markers in preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, perinatal outcomes of intrauterine transfusion for fetal anemia due to red blood cell alloimmunization, and prenatal diagnosis of fetal anomalies. These papers have appeared in journals such as Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine and Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Dr. Yüksel consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
