Mehmet Teomete, MD

Mehmet Teomete, MD is a medical oncologist at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in Istanbul, where he practices in the Medical Oncology Department. He has more than 32 years in medicine and treats adults with solid tumors, including cancers of the breast, lung and thorax, stomach, pancreas, colon and rectum, testis and ovaries, as well as bone tumors. Dr. Teomete graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1994 and began his career as a general practitioner at Trabzon Düzköy District Aykut Township Health Center (1994–1996) and Trabzon Central Çağlayan Health Center (1996–1998). He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital between 1998 and 2003 and remained there as an Internal Medicine specialist until 2005. From 2005 to 2009 he undertook subspecialty training in Medical Oncology at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, completing it in 2009. He then worked as a Medical Oncology specialist at Erzurum Regional Training and Research Hospital (2009–2010) and at Trabzon Numune Training and Research Hospital (2010). He is a member of the Medical Oncology Association and the Turkish Medical Association. During his years at Marmara University, he co-authored publications and conference abstracts on breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, colorectal cancer and rectal carcinoma, several of which appeared in the Journal of Clinical Oncology as part of ASCO Annual Meeting Proceedings, as well as in the Journal of Thoracic Oncology.

Clinical focus

Dr. Teomete’s clinical work covers a broad range of solid tumors. In gastrointestinal oncology, he manages patients with stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer and rectal cancer. His thoracic practice includes lung cancer and other thoracic cancers, an area reflected in his co-authored work on stage III and IV non-small cell lung cancer. He also treats breast cancer, the subject of several of his publications, including studies on adjuvant chemotherapy, hormone receptor status and triple-negative disease.

In addition, he sees patients with testicular cancer and ovarian cancer, as well as patients with bone tumors. As a medical oncologist, his role centers on the planning and supervision of drug-based cancer treatment and on working alongside the other specialties involved in a patient’s care. Recommendations depend on the type and stage of the tumor, previous therapies and the patient’s overall condition, and are discussed individually with each patient.

How Dr. Teomete works with international patients

Dr. Teomete consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
