Melike Gezer, MD

Dr. Gezer evaluates and treats several common and chronic eye conditions. Her areas of expertise include glaucoma, a group of conditions in which raised pressure inside the eye or other factors may damage the optic nerve and, if not monitored, can affect vision over time. She also cares for patients with age-related macular degeneration, a condition affecting the central part of the retina that is typically followed with regular retinal assessment.

In addition, her practice includes cataract, in which the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, as well as conditions affecting the eyelids. These include blepharitis, an inflammation of the eyelid margins, and ptosis, a drooping of the upper eyelid. The appropriate approach in each case depends on the findings of a clinical eye examination, the patient’s symptoms and any relevant medical history, and Dr. Gezer discusses the available options with each patient individually.

How Dr. Gezer works with international patients

Dr. Gezer consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as previous eye examination findings, imaging reports, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation with Dr. Gezer typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination of the eyes and a discussion of the possible options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Gezer before deciding whether to travel, although a face-to-face eye examination may still be needed to complete an assessment.
