Prof. Dr. Mete Güngör

Prof. Dr. Mete Güngör is a specialist in Gynecology & Obstetrics at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Gynecology & Obstetrics unit. Dr. Güngör studied at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine from 1982 to 1988 and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1994, with a period at Milwaukee Medical College, Wisconsin, in 1991–1992. He then worked as an Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist at Dr. Zekai Tahir Burak Obstetrics and Gynecology Training and Research Hospital from 1994 to 1997, before returning to Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, where he served as a Specialist Physician from 1997 to 2009, became Associate Professor in 2000 and Professor in 2006. In 1999–2000 he spent time in Gynecologic Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, U.S.A. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2009 and obtained his Medical Specialization Board certification in Gynecologic Oncology Surgery in 2011. He is a member of professional bodies including the European Society of Gynecologic Oncology (ESGO), the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS), the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), the European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE), the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), The Society of Urogynecology and the Turkish Gynecologic Oncology Group, and he serves on the Turkish Health Ministry, National Cancer Advisory Board. His publications cover topics such as secondary cytoreductive surgery for recurrent ovarian cancer, laparoscopic treatment of ovarian endometriomas and the comparison of tension-free vaginal tape with laparoscopic Burch urethropexy.

Clinical focus

Dr. Güngör’s clinical work covers benign and malignant gynecologic conditions. He treats endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain and pelvic dysfunction, and provides menopause care. In urogynecology, he evaluates and treats pelvic floor disorders. He performs robotic gynecologic surgery where it is considered appropriate for the individual patient, drawing on his background in laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery.

In gynecologic oncology, his areas of expertise include endometrial cancer, cervical cancer and ovarian cancer. Treatment decisions in these conditions depend on the stage of disease, the patient’s overall health and previous treatments, and are discussed with the patient after a review of the available findings.

How Dr. Güngör works with international patients

Dr. Güngör consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
