Prof. Dr. Mitat Bahçeci

Prof. Dr. Mitat Bahçeci is an endocrinologist in the Endocrinology & Metabolism unit at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir) in İzmir. With more than 38 years in medicine, his practice centers on the treatment of pituitary diseases, thyroid diseases and their treatment, and growth and puberty, alongside the care of patients with diabetes and other hormonal disorders. He consults in Turkish and English.

Dr. Bahçeci completed his training in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, and also studied at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1988. His career began at Trakya University (1989–1990), followed by a long association with Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, first from 1990 to 1993 and again from 1994 to 2009. During this period he served as Head of the Department of Endocrinology (1999–2009) and as Chief Physician of the Hospital (2005–2007). From 2009 to 2014 he was Head of the Endocrinology Clinic at Atatürk Training and Research Hospital. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023. He is a member of the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE), the Turkish Endocrinology and Metabolism Association (TEMD), Türkiye Diyabet Vakfı and the Turkish Medical Association.

Clinical focus

A substantial part of Dr. Bahçeci’s work concerns disorders of the pituitary gland. He evaluates and treats pituitary tumors and related hormonal conditions, including acromegaly, Cushing syndrome and diabetes insipidus. He also manages adrenal insufficiency in the form of Addison disease, as well as questions of growth and puberty, where hormonal assessment guides further evaluation and, where appropriate, treatment.

Thyroid conditions form a second area of his practice, covering thyroid disease treatment and the endocrine management of patients with thyroid cancer. In diabetes care, he treats type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes. In each case, the approach is based on a careful review of the patient’s history, laboratory results and imaging before treatment options are discussed.

How Dr. Bahçeci works with international patients

Dr. Bahçeci consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before traveling or to follow up after a visit; such a consultation is based on the records the patient provides and does not replace an in-person examination where one is needed.
