Prof. Mustafa Sofikerim, MD

Prof. Mustafa Sofikerim, MD is a urologist at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul, working in the Urology unit with a subspecialty focus on andrology (male reproductive health) and the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases. He has more than 27 years in medicine. He graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1999 and completed his urology training at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2004, having worked there as a research assistant doctor from 1999 to 2004. In 2003 he trained at Central Manchester and Manchester Children’s University Hospital, Manchester (England).

Dr. Sofikerim obtained the Turkish Urology Board of Proficiency in 2006 and became a Fellow of European Board of Urology (FEBU) in 2007. In 2009 he undertook further training at University of Heidelberg Klinikum Heilbronn GmbH Department of Urology, Heilbronn (Germany) and at University of Patras, Department of Urology, in Greece. His academic appointments include lecturer (2005–2007), assistant professor (2007–2010) and associate professor (2011) at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine Department of Urology, followed by associate professor (2011–2016) and professor (2016–2018) at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine Department of Urology. He has also completed the daVinci Robotic Surgery Training Program (2015), a hands-on course on prostate MRI reading for urologists in Prague (2019), Rezum Procedure Training with Boston Scientific in İstanbul (2021), a Holmium Laser Prostate Enucleation Training Program in Bulgaria (2022) and the MedBot Robotic Surgery Training Program (2025). He is a member of the Turkish Urology Association, Türk Üroonkoloji Association, Urological Surgery Association, Endoüroloji Association, Androloji Association and Endourology Society, and an active member of the European Urology Association (EAU).

Clinical focus

Dr. Sofikerim’s clinical work covers male reproductive health, erectile dysfunction, the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases, and kidney stones. In urologic oncology he evaluates and treats patients with prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer and testicular cancer. Where appropriate, he considers laparoscopic and robotic surgical approaches alongside endourological and other treatment options; the suitability of any approach depends on the individual assessment.

His published work includes studies on laparoscopic heminephrectomy for benign and malignant diseases of the horseshoe kidney, type 2 diabetes mellitus as a possible predicting factor for incontinence after laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, hormonal predictors of prostate cancer, and tubeless percutaneous nephrolithotomy with supracostal access.

Dr. Sofikerim consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
