Prof. Dr. Onur Yaman

Prof. Dr. Onur Yaman is a neurosurgeon at Acibadem Dr. Sinasi Can (Kadikoy) Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Neurosurgery unit. His clinical interests cover spinal and spinal cord conditions, movement disorders treatment, and pediatric neurosurgery. He provides care for adults and children with conditions affecting the brain, spine, spinal cord, and movement function, and has more than 25 years in medicine.

Dr. Yaman graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2001. He completed his specialization at Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery in 2009. He has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2025.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Yaman’s practice is dedicated to the spine and spinal cord. He evaluates and treats spinal and spinal cord injuries, spinal deformities such as kyphosis and scoliosis, and spinal fractures. For selected vertebral fractures, minimally invasive cement-augmentation procedures such as kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty may be considered. His work also includes spinal canal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal), disc disorders, spinal and spinal cord tumors, and spinal metastasis surgery. Where appropriate, he performs endoscopic spinal cord surgery, in which the procedure is carried out through smaller access routes with the aid of an endoscope. Whether surgery is suitable, and which technique is used, depends on the individual findings, the imaging, and the patient’s overall condition.

Beyond the spine, Dr. Yaman is involved in the treatment of movement disorders, including deep brain stimulation, a surgical approach in which electrodes are placed in defined brain regions and connected to a stimulator. Candidacy for this treatment is assessed on a case-by-case basis. His pediatric neurosurgery practice addresses conditions of the brain, spine, and spinal cord in children, with treatment planning adapted to the child’s age and development.

How Dr. Yaman works with international patients

Dr. Yaman consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the possible options. For patients who are not yet able to travel, a video consultation can be arranged for an initial review of the case. Any recommendation given remotely is preliminary and is confirmed after an in-person examination and, where needed, updated imaging.
