Yalçın Varnalı, MD

Yalçın Varnalı, MD is an otorhinolaryngology (ENT) specialist at Acibadem Bakirkoy Hospital in İstanbul. He graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1991 and, in the same year, spent time at the Cenevre Canton University Hospital ENT Department. After working as a general practitioner at the Hakkâri Mother-Child Health Family Planning Center in 1992, he began ENT residency training at the SB Beyoğlu Kuledibi Hospital ENT Clinic (1992–1994), worked as a research assistant at the İstanbul Faculty of Medicine Department of Pediatric Surgery (1994–1995), and completed his ENT residency at the SSK Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital ENT Clinic in 1996.

Dr. Varnalı worked as an ENT specialist at the SSK Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital ENT Clinic from 1995 to 1999 and again from 2000 to 2005, with a period at Kayseri Military Hospital in between (1999–2000). He subsequently held ENT specialist positions at Alman Nişantaşı Polyclinic (2005), Private Batı Bahat Hospital (2005–2009), Universal Taksim Alman Hospital (2009–2014), Doğan Hospital (2014), Medical Park Bahçelievler Hospital (Kemerburgaz University Faculty of Medicine), where he was an assistant professor (2014–2016), and Memorial Hizmet Hospital (2016–2021). He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2021. He is a member of the İstanbul Medical Chamber, the ENT Head and Neck Surgery Association, and the European Rhinologic Society. His published work includes articles on malignant tumors of the oral cavity, neck metastasis in lower lip carcinoma, reconstruction methods in head and neck cancers, peritonsillar abscess treatment, and endoscopic endonasal surgery.

Clinical focus

Dr. Varnalı's clinical work covers common and complex ear, nose and throat conditions in both children and adults. In pediatric ENT, his areas of expertise include childhood hearing loss, adenoid disorders, and tonsillectomy. He also evaluates and manages snoring and salivary gland diseases.

Nasal and sinus care is another focus. He performs nasal endoscopy to assess the nasal passages and sinuses, septoplasty for a deviated nasal septum, and endoscopic sinus surgery. In head and neck oncology, his practice includes the assessment and treatment of laryngeal cancer and other head and neck cancers, an area reflected in several of his publications.

How Dr. Varnalı works with international patients

Dr. Varnalı speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
