Prof. Arzu Ertürk, MD

Prof. Arzu Ertürk, MD is a Pulmonary Medicine specialist in the Pulmonology unit at Acibadem Bodrum Hospital in Muğla. With more than 40 years in medicine, her work covers the assessment and management of respiratory conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sleep-related breathing disorders, lung cancer, sarcoidosis, bronchiectasis and tuberculosis. She is a member of the European Respiratory Society (ERS), the Turkish Respiratory Research Association (TÜSAD), the Türk Toraks Association (TTD), the Türk Akciğer Kanseri Association (TAKD) and the Turkish Sleep Medicine Association (TUTD).

Dr. Ertürk graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1986. After compulsory service in 1987 at S.B. Eskişehir State Hospital Hızır Emergency Service and S.B. Söğüt Central Health Center, she completed her specialty training in chest diseases at S.B. Atatürk Chest Diseases and Chest Surgery Training and Research Hospital between 1987 and 1992. She then worked as a specialist at S.B. Çorum Chest Diseases Hospital (1992–1993, compulsory service), S.B. Malatya State Hospital (1993–1994) and S.B. Ankara No. 2 Tuberculosis Dispensary (1994–1995), before returning to S.B. Atatürk Chest Diseases and Chest Surgery Training and Research Hospital as a Specialist and Chief Assistant from 1995 to 2015. She became an Associate Professor in 2008. From 2015 to 2017 she practiced at Özel Ankara Koru Hospital. In 2017 she was appointed Professor at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Faculty of Medicine Department of Chest Diseases, where she served as Chair from 2017 to 2022. She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2022.

Clinical focus

Dr. Ertürk’s clinical practice covers a broad range of airway and lung diseases. She evaluates and manages patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and other sleep-related breathing disorders. Her work also includes lung cancer, sarcoidosis, including vertebral sarcoidosis, bronchiectasis and tuberculosis. She has additional experience with less common conditions such as pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis and the pulmonary manifestations of chronic hepatitis C infection.

Her published research reflects these interests and includes studies on gait speed and asthma control, echocardiographic findings in asthmatic patients, cognitive and motor performance in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, choroidal vascularity in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, particulate matter and sulfur dioxide exposure in relation to hospital admissions for asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Helicobacter pylori in bronchiectasis, and pulmonary alterations in patients with chronic HCV infection. She has also co-authored case reports on pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis and vertebral sarcoidosis.

How Dr. Ertürk works with international patients

Dr. Ertürk consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as CT or X-ray reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before traveling.
