Dt. Ayşe Selçuk Bayram

Dt. Ayşe Selçuk Bayram is an oral, dental and maxillofacial surgery specialist in the Dental & Oral Health unit at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. Her practice covers surgical and non-surgical care of the teeth, jaws and temporomandibular joint, ranging from tooth extraction and dental implants to orthognathic surgery, jaw fracture surgery and jaw cyst surgery. Dt. Bayram graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Dentistry in 2007. In 2013 she completed her specialty training in Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery at Selçuk University, which included study at the Selçuk University Health Sciences Institute. From 2013 to 2017 she worked at Ataşehir Oral and Dental Health Hospital, and in 2018 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services, where she continues to practice.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dt. Bayram’s work concerns the surgical management of the jaws. She performs orthognathic surgery to correct the position of the jaws, surgery for jaw fractures and removal of jaw cysts. She also carries out bone grafting, which may be considered when the jawbone does not offer enough volume to support planned treatment. In the area of tooth-preserving and tooth-replacing care, she performs impacted tooth extraction and routine tooth extraction, places dental implants and plans implant-supported restorations, including All-on-Four and All-on-Six treatment for patients who are missing most or all of the teeth in a jaw. Which option is appropriate depends on the individual findings, and this is assessed during the clinical evaluation.

Dt. Bayram also evaluates and treats temporomandibular joint disorders and trismus, a condition in which the mouth cannot be opened normally. For patients who grind or clench their teeth, she offers Botox treatment for teeth grinding and night guard therapy, which are intended to reduce muscle activity and protect the teeth and joints. The choice between these approaches, or a combination of them, is made after examination and a discussion of the patient’s symptoms and history.

How Dt. Bayram works with international patients

Dt. Bayram consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the hospital’s international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as X-ray or CT reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges the appointment and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous dental or surgical treatments, a clinical examination of the teeth, jaws and joints, and a discussion of the available options and their implications.
