Prof. Ayten Ferahbaş Kesikoğlu, MD

Prof. Ayten Ferahbaş Kesikoğlu, MD is a dermatologist at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Dermatology unit with a subspecialty focus on cosmetic dermatology. She has more than 37 years in medicine. Dr. Kesikoğlu graduated from Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 1989 and completed her specialization at Karadeniz Teknik University Faculty of Medicine Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases in 1996. From 1997 to 2000 she worked at Kayseri Devlet Hospital.

Between 2000 and 2015 she was on the faculty of Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases, where she was appointed Assistant Associate Professor in 2000, Associate Professor in 2005 and Professor in 2010. During this period she also trained at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases/Dermatologic Surgery Unit (2001) and at Germany/Tubingen Eberhard-Karls University School of Medicine Department of Dermatology/Dermatosurgery (2002). She subsequently worked at Medipol Universitesi Faculty of Medicine Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases (Koşuyolu Hospital) from 2016 to 2017, at Acıbadem Healthcare Services from 2017 to 2019, including at Bağdat Medical Center, and at Demiroğlu Bilim University Faculty of Medicine Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases (Florence Nightingale Hospitals) from 2019 to 2022. She is a founding member and board member of the Dermatologic Surgery Association (Türkiye) and a member of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, the International Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the Turkish Dermatology Association and the Turkish Pediatric Dermatology Association, among other professional bodies.

Clinical focus

Dr. Kesikoğlu sees patients with both medical and cosmetic skin concerns. Her areas of expertise include acne treatment, dermatitis treatment, skin infections, candida infections, wart treatment, sexually transmitted diseases and hyperhidrosis treatment. She also evaluates urticaria in children. In cosmetic dermatology, her work covers skin rejuvenation and regeneration, botulinum toxin applications and microneedling. Her background also includes pediatric dermatology, dermato-immunology, dermato-oncology and dermatologic surgery.

Her published research includes clinical studies on acne, such as isotretinoin treatment and its effects on sleep, anxiety and depressive scores, and a placebo-controlled trial of roxithromycin in acne vulgaris. She has also co-authored work on narrow-band UVB phototherapy, early-stage mycosis fungoides, treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis, cutaneous findings in hospitalized neonates and cellular findings in patients with vitiligo. These papers have appeared in journals including the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and Pediatric Dermatology.

How Dr. Kesikoğlu works with international patients

Dr. Kesikoğlu consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing records and previous treatments, a clinical examination of the skin and a discussion of the available options.
