Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Alpan’s practice is orthopedic oncology. He evaluates and treats patients with bone tumors and soft tissue sarcomas, and he also manages pediatric bone cysts. His oncologic surgery work involves the surgical assessment and planning of musculoskeletal tumors, an area in which the choice of approach depends on the type, location and extent of the lesion as well as the individual patient’s condition. Where reconstruction is needed after tumor surgery or following trauma, he performs advanced limb reconstruction aimed at restoring structure and function of the affected limb.

Dr. Alpan’s practice also covers deformity surgery for the correction of limb and skeletal deformities, wound care for patients with complex or slow-healing wounds, and minimally invasive trauma surgery, in which fractures and related injuries are addressed through smaller incisions where this is clinically appropriate. Whether a minimally invasive or an open approach is suitable is decided on a case-by-case basis after clinical and radiological assessment.

How Dr. Alpan works with international patients

Dr. Alpan consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options that may be considered. For patients who cannot travel for an initial assessment, a video consultation is available so that existing findings can be reviewed and the next steps discussed before any decision about treatment or travel is made. Any surgical plan is confirmed only after in-person examination and, where needed, further diagnostic work-up.
