Prof. Bülent Karabulut, MD

Prof. Bülent Karabulut, MD is a medical oncologist at Acibadem Kent Hospital in İzmir, where he works in the Medical Oncology Department. He has more than 33 years in medicine, and his clinical practice covers a broad range of solid tumors, including cancers of the breast, gastrointestinal system, gynecological organs, urinary system, liver, biliary tract, and peritoneum.

Dr. Karabulut graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1993. He completed his Internal Medicine training there in 1999 and his Medical Oncology training in 2001. He became an Associate Professor in 2006 and a Professor in 2011. His career includes medical oncology cell research laboratory work at Ege University Faculty of Medicine beginning in 1997, and roles at Kent Oncology Center at Private Kent Hospital, where he served as General Coordinator and Medical Oncology Specialist. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023. He is a founding member of the Ege Hematology Oncology Association (EHOD) and the Interdisciplinary Oncology Association (İDOD) and has served as vice president of both. He has held board positions at the Turkish Medical Oncology Association, the Turkish Oncology Group Association, the Turkish Lung Cancer Association (where he also served as general secretary), the Head and Neck Cancers Association, and Ege University Cancer Research Center. He is a member of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). He has chaired a digestive system tumors working group, held regional representative duties, served as advisory faculty to a young researchers working group, and been a member of education, accreditation, drug safety, and blood transfusion commissions.

Clinical focus

Dr. Karabulut’s clinical work centers on the medical oncology management of solid tumors. In gynecologic oncology, this includes ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, and endometrial cancer. In gastrointestinal oncology, he treats pancreatic cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, liver cancer, gallbladder and bile duct cancers, and peritoneal cancer. His practice also covers bladder cancer, kidney cancer, and breast cancer.

Medical oncology addresses the drug-based treatment of cancer and its coordination with other disciplines where relevant. Any recommendation depends on the individual diagnosis, disease stage, prior treatment, and the patient’s overall health, and is determined after review of the complete medical record.

How Dr. Karabulut works with international patients

Dr. Karabulut consults in Turkish and English. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the transfer of medical reports and the scheduling of appointments before a patient’s visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s medical history, existing pathology and imaging reports, previous treatments, and current symptoms, followed by a discussion of possible next steps, which may include further tests before a treatment plan can be discussed. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to have an initial review or a follow-up discussion from their home country.
