Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Tucer

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Tucer is a neurosurgeon at Acibadem Kayseri Hospital in Kayseri, where he works within the Neurosurgery unit. His clinical interests span spinal conditions, brain and spinal cord tumours, movement disorder treatment, epilepsy surgery and paediatric neurosurgery. He has more than 35 years in medicine and consults in Turkish and English.

Dr. Tucer graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1991 and continued his neurosurgery training at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine. He worked in the Nöroşirurji Department of Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine from 1994 to 2000, served as a research assistant in the Department of Neurosurgery from 2000 to 2002 and held an assistant associate professorship there from 2002 to 2012. He was appointed Associate Professor at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 2013 and remained in that role until 2015, when he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He is a member of the Türk Nöroşirürji Association and serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Stereotaxy&Functional&Pain and Epilepsy Group.

Clinical focus

Dr. Tucer’s areas of expertise cover conditions affecting the brain, spine and nervous system in both adults and children. In spinal care, he treats lumbar and cervical spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal), disc herniation, and neck, back and low-back pain, and he performs spinal injections and rhizotomy where these are appropriate. His work with brain and spinal cord tumours includes meningioma and neuroblastoma. He also manages haematoma, hemiplegia, craniosynostosis and hydrocephalus, including congenital hydrocephalus in children.

His subspecialty is movement disorders treatment, and he is involved in epilepsy surgery as part of the assessment and care of patients with epilepsy. His board role in the Stereotaxy&Functional&Pain and Epilepsy Group reflects this functional neurosurgery interest. Decisions in these areas are made only after a careful review of the diagnosis, imaging and previous treatments; not every patient is a candidate for a surgical procedure, and Dr. Tucer discusses the possible options, as well as their limitations, with each patient.

How Dr. Tucer works with international patients

Dr. Tucer consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case with Dr. Tucer before deciding whether to travel, and any recommendations made at that stage remain subject to in-person examination and review of the full records.
