Bülent Yücel, MD

Bülent Yücel, MD is a specialist in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology at Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Orthopedics & Joint Center. Dr. Yücel graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2000 and completed his specialty training at the İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology in 2006. He then served from 2006 to 2007 at the 23rd Gendarmerie Border Division Şırnak Military Hospital, followed by positions at Ardahan Devlet Hospital from 2007 to 2009 and at İstanbul Esenyurt Devlet Hospital from 2009. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2018.

Clinical focus

Dr. Yücel’s clinical work covers a range of orthopedic and traumatic conditions of the musculoskeletal system, with a particular emphasis on the knee. He evaluates and treats meniscus tears, cruciate ligament tears, knee injuries and sports injuries, and he performs knee replacement surgery for patients whose joint damage is advanced. Degenerative and metabolic bone and joint conditions, including osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and other joint disorders, are also part of his practice, as are scoliosis and hand injuries. His subspecialty is robotic surgery, which he applies within orthopedic procedures where appropriate; whether a robotic approach is suitable for a given patient depends on the individual findings and is discussed during assessment.

He is a member of the İstanbul Medical Chamber, TOTBİD-Turkish Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology, TOTEK-Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Education Council, TUSYAD-Turkish Sports Injuries Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery Association, ISAKOS-lnternational Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and ESSKA-European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy. Dr. Yücel has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on topics such as high tibial osteotomy for varus gonarthrosis, arthroscopic treatment of shoulder conditions, magnetic resonance imaging of occult osseous injuries in traumatic knees, patellofemoral arthroplasty and pediatric forearm fractures.

How Dr. Yücel works with international patients

Dr. Yücel consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, which may range from conservative measures to surgery depending on the findings. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before traveling or who need a follow-up conversation after treatment.
