Dr. Cezmi Karaca

Dr. Cezmi Karaca is a general surgeon at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir) in İzmir, where he practises within the General Surgery unit. His subspecialty areas are Endocrine Surgery and Digestive System Diseases and Surgery. Dr. Karaca has spent more than 51 years in medicine, and his work centers on the surgical assessment and treatment of endocrine, digestive, colorectal, anorectal and abdominal wall conditions, as well as breast and oncological surgery.

Dr. Karaca graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1975 and completed his General Surgery training at Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1980. From 1983 to 2017, he worked in the General Surgery and Organ Transplantation Clinic at İzmir Tepecik Training and Research Hospital. In 2023, he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. Dr. Karaca’s clinical practice covers a range of general surgical conditions and procedures. In endocrine surgery, his areas of expertise include thyroid surgery. In digestive system surgery, he evaluates and treats patients requiring colorectal surgery, including those with anorectal diseases and rectal prolapse. He also performs hernia repair for inguinal hernia and umbilical hernia.

His practice further includes oncological surgery and mastectomy. Each case is assessed individually, and the suitability of any surgical procedure depends on the patient’s diagnosis, imaging and laboratory findings, overall health and prior treatments. Where appropriate, Dr. Karaca discusses the available surgical and non-surgical options with the patient so that decisions can be made on the basis of the clinical picture.

How Dr. Karaca works with international patients

Dr. Karaca consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the possible options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Karaca before travelling, or to follow up after treatment.
