Dilek Tomatır, MD

Dilek Tomatır, MD is an ophthalmologist at the Acibadem Bahçeşehir Outpatient Clinic in İstanbul, where she works in the Ophthalmology unit. Dr. Tomatır graduated from Trakya University Faculty of Medicine in 1990 and completed her specialty training in ophthalmology at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine in 1998. She has been working at Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2017. She is a member of the Türk Oftalmoloji Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Tomatır evaluates and manages pediatric eye diseases, including strabismus and amblyopia, conditions in which early assessment of eye alignment and visual development is an important part of care. She also sees patients with eyelid drooping and with glaucoma, where ongoing monitoring of eye pressure and the optic nerve guides treatment decisions.

A further part of her practice concerns retinal diseases, including macular degeneration and retinopathy, as well as uveitis, an inflammatory condition of the eye that may require coordination with other specialties. In neuro-ophthalmology, Dr. Tomatır assesses vision changes that may arise from the optic nerve or the visual pathways of the brain, and she works with patients to clarify the cause of their symptoms and the appropriate next steps in evaluation.

How Dr. Tomatır works with international patients

Dr. Tomatır consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI or CT reports, laboratory results, previous eye examination records and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical eye examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Tomatır before traveling or as part of follow-up.
