Emre Çakır, MD

Emre Çakır, MD is an ophthalmologist at Acibadem Bodrum Hospital in Muğla, where he practises within the Ophthalmology unit. Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Çakır’s practice concerns conditions that affect vision in adults. He assesses and manages glaucoma, cataract and retinal diseases, and carries out smart lens procedures for patients in whom lens replacement is being considered. He also evaluates refractive errors, including astigmatism, and discusses with each patient whether correction is appropriate and which approach may suit their eyes and circumstances. Because several of these conditions can develop gradually, examination findings and any existing imaging are reviewed together before a treatment plan is proposed.

Dr. Çakır also treats disorders of the eyelids and the ocular surface, including blepharitis, ptosis, eyelid myokymia and eye allergies. In children, his work includes paediatric eye diseases and amblyopia, where early assessment and follow-up are an important part of care. He additionally sees patients with ocular migraine, a condition in which visual symptoms need to be distinguished from other causes of disturbed vision. Where a condition falls outside ophthalmology, or where another specialty is relevant, he coordinates with colleagues at the hospital as needed.

How Dr. Çakır works with international patients

Dr. Çakır consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit in Bodrum. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options, so that patients can understand the findings before any decision is made. For patients abroad, a video consultation can be arranged as an initial step, which allows Dr. Çakır to review the case and indicate what further examination may be needed on site. Follow-up arrangements are discussed individually and depend on the condition being treated.
