Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdem Güven

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdem Güven is a specialist in Aesthetic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery who practices in the Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery unit at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul. He has more than 28 years in medicine, and his clinical work covers breast surgery, facial rejuvenation surgery, body contouring procedures and reconstructive approaches.

Dr. Güven graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1998 and completed his specialty training in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at the same institution in 2004. He subsequently obtained Medical Specialization Board qualifications in Hand Surgery in 2011 and in Oral, Facial and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2012. He has been with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2019.

Clinical focus

A significant part of Dr. Güven’s practice is devoted to breast surgery. He evaluates and treats a range of breast conditions and performs breast augmentation, including minimally invasive breast augmentation, as well as breast reduction. Each procedure is discussed with the patient in light of their anatomy, medical history and personal expectations, and the potential benefits and limitations of the different surgical approaches are reviewed before any decision is made.

His facial work includes facelift surgery and buccal fat removal. For patients who wish to address changes after pregnancy, he offers mommy makeover procedures, in which several body contouring steps are combined into one coordinated treatment plan. On the reconstructive side, Dr. Güven performs Mohs surgery, a staged approach used for certain skin cancers, and applies reconstructive surgery principles where repair of the resulting defect is needed. Whether a procedure is appropriate depends on the individual case, and not every patient who requests a particular operation will be a suitable candidate for it.

How Dr. Güven works with international patients

Dr. Güven consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound, MRI or CT reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, including whether surgery is advisable at all. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Güven before deciding whether to travel, although a physical examination is generally still needed before any surgical plan is confirmed.
