Prof. Dr. G. Ertuğrul Mirza

Prof. Dr. G. Ertuğrul Mirza is an ophthalmology specialist at Acibadem Kayseri Hospital in Kayseri, where he works in the Ophthalmology unit. With more than 50 years in medicine, his clinical work concentrates on diseases of the retina, cornea and lens, as well as glaucoma and ocular migraine. He graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1976 and completed his ophthalmology training at Kayseri University Gevher Nesibe Faculty of Medicine in 1980. In 1994 he undertook further training in vitreoretinal surgery at Moorfields Hospital, London.

Most of his professional life was spent at Erciyes University, where he was affiliated with the Department of Ophthalmology from 1976 to 2019. He served as Assistant Professor at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology from 1984 to 1989 and as Associate Professor from 1989 to 1995, and he held the position of Department Chair for several periods, most recently from 2009 to 2019. Earlier in his career he completed his military service at Kayseri Military Hospital (1981–1982) and worked for a time as a self-employed ophthalmology specialist. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2019. Dr. Mirza is a member of the Kayseri Medical Chamber, Türk Diyabet Cemiyeti Kayseri Şubesi and Türk Oftalmoloji Association Çukurova Şubesi. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on retinal topics, including optical coherence tomography findings in central serous chorioretinopathy and retinitis pigmentosa, choroidal thickness, intravitreal anti-VEGF injections and retinal changes in neurological disease.

Clinical focus

Dr. Mirza’s areas of expertise center on retinal diseases, including macular degeneration, retinal tears and retinal detachment. His training in vitreoretinal surgery is reflected in this retinal focus, and his research has also addressed the diagnosis and monitoring of macular and choroidal conditions.

Beyond the retina, he evaluates and manages a range of other eye conditions. These include myopia, keratoconus, cataract, amblyopia and glaucoma. He also sees patients with ocular migraine. Which examinations and treatment options are appropriate depends on the individual findings and is discussed with each patient after a clinical assessment.

How Dr. Mirza works with international patients

Dr. Mirza consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
