Assoc. Prof. Hilmi Kodaz, MD

Assoc. Prof. Hilmi Kodaz, MD is a medical oncologist at Acibadem Eskisehir Hospital in Eskişehir, where he practices in the Medical Oncology Department. He has more than 23 years in medicine. Dr. Kodaz graduated from Ondokuzmayıs University Faculty of Medicine in 2003. He then completed his Internal Medicine training at Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine in 2009 and his Medical Oncology training at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine in 2015. He has been working with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2017 and holds the academic title of Associate Professor.

Clinical focus

Dr. Kodaz sees patients with a broad range of solid tumors. In women’s cancers, his areas of expertise include ovarian cancer, breast cancer and cervical cancer. In gastrointestinal oncology, he assesses and plans care for patients with stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer. His work also covers lung and thoracic cancers, thyroid cancer, prostate cancer and bone tumors.

As a medical oncologist, Dr. Kodaz evaluates each patient’s diagnosis and the information already available, and discusses the medical oncology options that may be considered in that situation. Treatment recommendations depend on the type and stage of the tumor, the findings of prior investigations and the patient’s overall health, and they can only be made after an individual assessment. Where existing reports or imaging are incomplete, he may suggest further tests before a plan is finalized. Patients who are already receiving treatment elsewhere may also be seen for a second opinion on their current plan.

How Dr. Kodaz works with international patients

Dr. Kodaz consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports, pathology results and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the possible options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to have an initial review of their case or to ask questions before deciding whether to travel. The scope of such a consultation is limited by the fact that no physical examination can take place, and any conclusions remain provisional until the patient is seen in person.
