Prof. Hüseyin Hayrı Kertmen, MD

Prof. Hüseyin Hayrı Kertmen, MD is a neurosurgeon at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices within the Neurosurgery unit. Dr. Kertmen graduated from Karadeniz Teknik University Faculty of Medicine in 2001. He then completed his specialist training in neurosurgery at Ankara Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital Department of Neurosurgery, finishing in 2010. Since 2025, he has worked with Acıbadem Healthcare Services, where his practice brings together open, endoscopic and stereotactic neurosurgical techniques and neuromodulation treatments.

Clinical focus

Dr. Kertmen assesses and treats structural conditions of the brain, including brain aneurysms, brain tumours, pituitary disorders and hydrocephalus. For pituitary disease and lesions of the skull base, he performs endoscopic pituitary and skull base surgery. His practice also includes neuroendoscopy and stereotactic biopsy, in which a tissue sample is obtained from a precisely defined location to establish a diagnosis. Patients with hydrocephalus, aneurysms or tumours are evaluated individually, and the question of whether treatment is indicated, and which approach is appropriate, is discussed with each patient on the basis of their imaging and clinical findings.

A second area of focus is functional neurosurgery and neuromodulation. Dr. Kertmen treats movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonic tremor, and offers deep brain stimulation for suitably selected patients. He performs epilepsy surgery for patients with epilepsy in whom a surgical approach is being considered, and uses spinal cord stimulation and epidural nerve stimulation as part of neuromodulation-based treatment. In keeping with his interest in dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and aging, he takes part in the assessment of older patients with cognitive or movement symptoms in whom a neurosurgical cause or treatment option needs to be considered.

How Dr. Kertmen works with international patients

Dr. Kertmen consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI or CT reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
