Mahir Kenduşim, MD is an ophthalmologist at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Ophthalmology unit. He cares for adults and children with a range of eye conditions. Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Kenduşim’s practice concerns conditions that affect the front of the eye and the eyelids. He evaluates and treats conjunctivitis, eye allergies and blepharitis, an inflammation of the eyelid margins that can cause irritation, redness and crusting. He also sees patients with eye twitching (myokymia), which is usually a benign, self-limiting condition but may need assessment when it persists or is accompanied by other symptoms. Uveitis, an inflammation of the inner structures of the eye, is another area of his work; because it can be linked to systemic disease, evaluation may involve a detailed history and, where appropriate, coordination with other specialties.

Dr. Kenduşim also manages glaucoma, a group of conditions in which raised pressure inside the eye or other factors can damage the optic nerve over time. Assessment typically includes measurement of intraocular pressure and examination of the optic nerve, with follow-up planned according to the individual findings. In children, he evaluates pediatric eye diseases, including amblyopia (reduced vision in one eye that has not developed normally) and hyperopia (farsightedness). Early recognition of these conditions is relevant in childhood, as the approach to treatment depends on the child’s age and the results of the examination.

How Dr. Kenduşim works with international patients

Dr. Kenduşim consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as previous eye examination records, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing records and previous treatments, a clinical examination of the eyes and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Kenduşim before or instead of traveling, although in ophthalmology an in-person examination is often needed to complete the assessment.
