Murat Saylık, MD is an ophthalmologist at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Ophthalmology unit. Dr. Saylık graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1989. He then completed his specialty training at the Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital Department of Ophthalmology in 1993. In 2016 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services, and he has continued his practice there since then, providing consultations for adults and children with a range of eye and vision problems.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Saylık’s practice involves the evaluation of refractive errors. He sees patients with myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism, assessing how each condition affects vision and discussing the correction options that may be suitable. He also evaluates patients with cataract, a clouding of the eye’s natural lens that gradually reduces visual clarity, and discusses smart lens options where they may be relevant. Whether a particular lens or treatment is appropriate depends on the individual patient’s eye findings, visual needs and general health, and this is determined only after a clinical examination.

Dr. Saylık also manages several conditions affecting the eyelids and visual development. Blepharitis, an inflammation of the eyelid margins, is assessed and treated with attention to the patient’s symptoms and eye surface findings. Eyelid myokymia, an involuntary twitching of the eyelid, is evaluated to identify possible contributing factors. In children and adults with amblyopia, sometimes called lazy eye, he assesses the reduction in vision and discusses management approaches based on the patient’s age and findings.

How Dr. Saylık works with international patients

Dr. Saylık consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as previous eye examination records, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical eye examination and a discussion of the possible options. For patients who are unable to travel initially, or who wish to discuss their situation before a visit, a video consultation is available for international patients. Any treatment decision is made only after a full examination, and the discussion at the first consultation is intended to clarify findings and outline realistic next steps rather than to commit to a particular procedure.
