Mustafa Bozkurt, MD

Mustafa Bozkurt, MD is a medical oncologist at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Medical Oncology Department. From 2002 to 2009 he worked in the Internal Medicine Clinic of Bezm-i Alem Vakıf Gureba Training and Research Hospital. He completed his Medical Oncology training at İstanbul Bilim University in 2012 and joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2014. In 2017 he undertook research in gastrointestinal cancer at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center Department of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology in Houston. His publications include a case report on gastroesophageal cancer during pregnancy, a review of the role of chemotherapy in unresectable or metastatic adenocarcinoma of the stomach and gastroesophageal junction, and a chapter on esophageal squamous cell cancer and gastric/gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma in the Handbook of Targeted Cancer Therapy and Immunotherapy.

Clinical focus

Dr. Bozkurt’s areas of expertise cover the medical oncology care of patients with lung cancer and other thoracic cancers, and with breast cancer. A large part of his practice is devoted to gastrointestinal malignancies, including stomach cancer, oesophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, biliary tract cancer, colon cancer, rectal cancer and small intestine cancer.

As a medical oncologist, his role typically involves evaluating the diagnosis and stage of disease, reviewing pathology and imaging, and discussing systemic treatment options with the patient. His published work on chemotherapy for stomach and gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma, and on imaging in rectal adenocarcinoma, reflects his particular interest in gastrointestinal cancers. Treatment decisions depend on the individual patient’s diagnosis, prior treatments and overall condition, and are discussed on a case-by-case basis.
