Prof. Dr. Necdet Sağlam

Prof. Dr. Necdet Sağlam is an orthopedic surgery and traumatology specialist at Acibadem Kartal Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. His subspecialty areas are foot and ankle surgery, hip and knee replacement surgery, shoulder and elbow surgery, and robotic surgery. He holds the academic title of professor and has more than 31 years in medicine.

Dr. Sağlam graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1995 and completed his specialty training in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the same faculty in 2000, having worked as a research assistant in its Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology during that period. He then served as a specialist doctor at Pamukova State Hospital, as chief assistant at the Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic, and as a medical second lieutenant at T.S.K. Elazığ Military Hospital, before working as a specialist doctor at Acıbadem International Hospital in 2005–2006. From 2006 he held chief assistant and later associate professor positions at the Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic, and from 2006 to 2010 he was also assistant associate professor at İstanbul Medipol University Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology. Between 2017 and 2024 he worked in the Chief Physician’s Office of Health Sciences University Ümraniye Health Practice and Research Center. In 2024 he was a professor at Başakşehir Çam ve Sakura City Hospital and, from 2024 to 2025, at Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital Orthopedics and Traumatology. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2026. He is a board member of the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association – TOTDER and a member of the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Education Council-TOTEK, the Turkish Spine Association- TOD, the Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Association, and the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Union Association-TOTBİD.

Clinical focus

Dr. Sağlam’s clinical work covers trauma care, spine disorders and spine deformity surgery, including kyphosis and scoliosis. In joint surgery he performs hip replacement surgery and knee replacement surgery, treats meniscus tears and sports-related knee and joint injuries, and manages osteoarthritis. His practice also includes shoulder and elbow surgery, foot and ankle surgery, and robotic surgery. Treatment recommendations depend on the individual diagnosis, symptoms, and imaging findings.

He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on topics including total hip arthroplasty for developmental dysplasia of the hip and steroid-induced avascular necrosis, intramedullary nailing of distal tibia fractures, posterior screw fixation techniques for thoracolumbar junction fractures, tranexamic acid use in total hip arthroplasty, the combination of an Ilizarov fixator with an intramedullary nail for tibial nonunions, and kyphectomy with a sliding growing rod technique in congenital lumbar kyphosis.

How Dr. Sağlam works with international patients

Dr. Sağlam speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the options.
