Assoc. Prof. Onur Taşar, MD

Assoc. Prof. Onur Taşar, MD is a cardiologist in the Cardiology Department at Acıbadem Bakırköy Hospital in İstanbul. He graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2007 and trained in cardiology at İstanbul Kartal Koşuyolu High Specialty Training and Research Hospital, where he was a resident doctor from 2008 to 2013 and then a cardiology specialist from 2013 to 2014. He received the title of Associate Professor in 2020 at Health Sciences University Elazığ Fethi Sekin City Hospital, Cardiology Clinic. In 2022 he completed training in intracoronary imaging and complex coronary interventions at Hartcentrum OLV AALST/ BELGIUM.

Between 2014 and 2020 Dr. Taşar worked as a cardiology specialist at Health Sciences University, Elazığ Training and Research Hospital, followed by an associate professor position at Health Sciences University, Elazığ City Training and Research Hospital from 2020 to 2021. From 2021 to 2024 he was an associate professor at Health Sciences University, İstanbul Gaziosmanpaşa Training and Research Hospital, and from 2022 to 2024 he was a faculty member of the Department of Cardiology at Health Sciences University, Hamidiye Faculty of Medicine. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2024. With more than 19 years in medicine, he is a member of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the Turkish Cardiology Association (TKD), the Kardiyovasküler Akademi Association (KVAD), the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular lnterventions (EAPCI) and the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI). His published work includes studies on optical coherence tomography, stent apposition, coronary artery aneurysm after stenting and the no-reflow phenomenon in patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention.

Clinical focus

Dr. Taşar’s clinical work centers on coronary artery disease and its interventional treatment. He performs coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention, including complex coronary interventions and the treatment of chronic total occlusion. Intracoronary imaging, such as optical coherence tomography, is part of his approach to assessing coronary lesions and evaluating stent results.

His practice also covers structural heart conditions. He assesses and treats heart valve disease, including aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation, and performs transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in suitable patients. He additionally manages atrial septal defect, heart failure and pacemaker therapy. The choice of treatment depends on the individual patient’s findings, and options are discussed after a review of the available clinical information.

How Dr. Taşar works with international patients

Dr. Taşar consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as angiography or echocardiography reports, CT or MRI reports, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
