Asst. Prof. Dr. Özlem Aptı Sengkıoun

Asst. Prof. Dr. Özlem Aptı Sengkıoun is a dermatologist in the Dermatology unit at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. Her clinical work spans medical and cosmetic dermatology, covering conditions of the skin, hair and nails as well as selected cosmetic dermatology applications.

Dr. Sengkıoun graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2017 and completed her specialty training in Dermatology and Venereal Diseases at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2022. From 2018 to 2022 she worked in the Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, and since 2022 she has been with Acıbadem Healthcare Services. Her 2022 specialty thesis examined capillaroscopic findings and endothelial dysfunction in patients with livedoid vasculopathy. She is a member of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, the Turkish Dermatology Association and the Dermatology and Venereal Diseases Association. Her co-authored publications include a review of comorbidities of atopic dermatitis, real-life data on dupilumab in adults with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis, a prospective cohort study of COVID-19 vaccines in patients with psoriasis receiving systemic therapies, real-life data on omalizumab dosing intervals in chronic spontaneous urticaria, and a report on isothiazolinone contact allergy in children linked to slime.

Clinical focus

Within medical dermatology, Dr. Sengkıoun assesses and treats inflammatory and chronic skin conditions, including acne, rosacea, psoriasis, and dermatitis and eczema. She also manages hair loss, including hair loss during pregnancy, treats warts and genital warts, and offers mole mapping and treatment for the assessment and follow-up of skin lesions. Each treatment plan is based on the clinical examination and the patient’s history, and the suitability of any particular approach is discussed on an individual basis.

In cosmetic dermatology, her areas of expertise include fractional laser treatment, gold needle radiofrequency application, exosome applications and botulinum toxin injections. Whether a cosmetic procedure is appropriate depends on the individual skin findings, general health and expectations, which are reviewed with the patient before any application is planned.

How Dr. Sengkıoun works with international patients

Dr. Sengkıoun consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination of the skin, hair or nails, and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their concern or review findings remotely, with the understanding that some dermatological assessments and all procedures require an in-person examination.
