Prof. Özlem Çelik, MD

Prof. Özlem Çelik, MD is an endocrinology specialist in the Endocrinology & Metabolism unit at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. With more than 33 years in medicine, her clinical work covers type 1 and type 2 diabetes, obesity, thyroid disorders and thyroid cancer, osteoporosis, menopause, and endocrine conditions affecting the adrenal and pituitary glands. She is a member of the Turkish Endocrinology and Metabolism Association, the Turkish Society of Internal Medicine Specialists, The Endocrine Society and the European Society of Endocrinology.

Dr. Çelik studied medicine at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine from 1993 to 1999. She completed her Internal Medicine training at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine in 2004 and her Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases training at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2011. Her professional experience includes the Trakya University Faculty of Medicine / Department of Internal Medicine (2004–2005), the Özel Ege Sağlık Hospital Internal Medicine Clinic (2005–2006), Özel Avcılar Medicana Hospital (2006), Acıbadem Healthcare Services (2007) and Acıbadem Beylikdüzü Medical Center (2007–2008). She has co-authored publications on topics including pheochromocytoma, acromegaly, Graves’ ophthalmopathy, primary hyperparathyroidism, diabetic ketoacidosis and late-onset hypogonadism in men with metabolic syndrome.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Çelik’s practice is the evaluation and management of diabetes, including type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes. Her work with diabetes includes the use of continuous glucose monitoring systems where appropriate. She also assesses and manages obesity and osteoporosis, and sees women with menopause-related concerns, one of her stated subspecialty areas.

Thyroid disease is her other subspecialty area. Dr. Çelik evaluates and treats thyroid diseases and is involved in the management of thyroid cancer. Her expertise further extends to disorders of the adrenal and pituitary glands, including Cushing syndrome, Addison’s disease, adrenal gland cancer and acromegaly. The suitability of any diagnostic or treatment approach is determined individually after clinical assessment.

How Dr. Çelik works with international patients

Dr. Çelik consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
