Prof. Rıza Türköz, MD

Prof. Rıza Türköz, MD is a cardiovascular surgeon at Acibadem Bakirkoy Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices within the Cardiovascular Surgery unit. Dr. Türköz graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1987 and completed his cardiovascular surgery training at İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital in 1993, having worked at İzmir Atatürk State Hospital as an assistant doctor from 1987 to 1993 and as a specialist doctor from 1993 to 1996. In 1992 he spent time at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit, in Melbourne, Australia. From 1996 to 2001 he held academic posts at İnönü University Faculty of Medicine, first as assistant associate professor and then as associate professor. In 1998 he gained further experience in pediatric cardiovascular surgery at The Hospital for Sick Children and in cardiac surgery at Toronto General Hospital, Division of Cardiac Surgery, both in Toronto, Canada. He joined Başkent University Faculty of Medicine in 2001 as associate professor, became Professor there in 2006 and remained until 2013. In 2011 he obtained the Medical Specialty Board qualification in Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery. He worked at Hisar Intercontinental Hospital from 2013 to 2015 before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2015. He has co-authored publications in journals including The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and the World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, on topics such as the arterial switch operation, the extracardiac Fontan operation and coronary artery grafting techniques.

Clinical focus

In adult cardiac surgery, Dr. Türköz has a particular interest in minimally invasive approaches, including minimally invasive coronary bypass surgery, minimally invasive valve surgery and minimally invasive aortic aneurysm surgery. He treats heart valve diseases, among them aortic valve stenosis, as well as aortic aneurysm and other diseases of the great vessels.

His pediatric practice focuses on the surgical management of congenital heart diseases, including atrial septal defect (ASD), ventricular septal defect (VSD) and tetralogy of Fallot. The choice of procedure in each case depends on the individual diagnosis, anatomy and overall condition of the patient, which are assessed before any surgical recommendation is made.

How Dr. Türköz works with international patients

Dr. Türköz consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
