Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serkan Demirkan

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serkan Demirkan is a dermatologist at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir) in İzmir, where he works in the Dermatology unit. His clinical work spans inflammatory and pigmentary skin conditions, hair loss, skin tumors, viral warts, fungal infections and dermatologic aesthetic procedures. He has more than 17 years in medicine and is a member of the Turkish Pediatric Dermatology Association, the Turkish Dermatology Association (TDD) and the Aydın Dermatology and Venereal Diseases Association. He consults in Turkish and English.

Dr. Demirkan graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2009 and completed his specialty training in Dermatology and Venereal Diseases at Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine in 2013. From 2015 to 2018 he served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases at Kırıkkale University – KÜTF. Between 2018 and 2020 he worked as a specialist in the Dermatology and Venereal Diseases Clinic of İzmir Katip Çelebi University Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, where he became Associate Professor in 2020. From 2020 to 2023 he practiced at the Dermatology and Venereal Diseases Clinic of Özel Bodrum Acıbadem Hospital, and from 2023 he held the same role at Özel Bodrum Amerikan Hospital.

Clinical focus

Dr. Demirkan evaluates and treats a range of hair and pigmentation conditions, including alopecia areata, vitiligo and other pigmentation disorders, as well as birthmarks. A substantial part of his practice involves pigmented lesions and skin tumors: he performs mole mapping and treatment and assesses patients with melanoma and other skin tumors. He also manages dermoid cysts, genital warts and Candida fungal infections.

In cosmetic and procedural dermatology, his areas of expertise include botulinum toxin applications, mesotherapy and microneedle radiofrequency. Whether a treatment is appropriate depends on the individual diagnosis, skin type and medical history, which are reviewed during the consultation before any procedure is discussed.

How Dr. Demirkan works with international patients

Dr. Demirkan sees international patients in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before the visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital stay. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging, photographs and previous treatments, a clinical examination of the skin, hair or nails, and a discussion of the available options. For patients who are unable to travel initially, a video consultation is available so that the case can be reviewed and next steps discussed in advance. Any recommendation for treatment or follow-up is made only after this individual assessment.
