Sinan Göker, MD

Sinan Göker, MD is an ophthalmologist at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Ophthalmology unit. Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Göker’s work concerns cataracts, in which clouding of the natural lens gradually reduces the clarity of vision. Evaluation typically involves assessing how far the cataract affects daily activities and whether surgery is appropriate at a given stage. Closely related to this are smart lens procedures, in which the natural lens is replaced with an artificial intraocular lens. Whether a patient is a suitable candidate depends on an individual examination, and the findings are discussed with the patient before any decision is made.

Dr. Göker also sees patients with refractive errors, including myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. These conditions affect how the eye focuses light and are assessed through a detailed measurement of vision and refraction, after which the available options are reviewed with the patient. His clinical interests further include amblyopia, a reduction in vision in one eye that develops in childhood and generally benefits from early recognition. On the surface of the eye and the eyelids, he evaluates blepharitis, an inflammation of the eyelid margins, and eyelid myokymia, an involuntary twitching of the eyelid. In each of these areas the aim of the consultation is a careful examination, a clear explanation of the findings and a considered discussion of what treatment, if any, may be suitable.

How Dr. Göker works with international patients

Dr. Göker consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as previous eye examination findings, prescriptions, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing records and previous treatments, a clinical examination of the eyes and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation or have their existing reports reviewed before deciding whether to travel; a final assessment usually still requires an in-person examination.
