Prof. Vahit Emre Özden, MD

Prof. Vahit Emre Özden, MD is an orthopedic surgeon and traumatologist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Orthopedics & Joint Center. His subspecialties are hip and knee replacement surgery and robotic surgery, and his clinical work covers joint diseases, osteoarthritis, meniscus tears and minimally invasive trauma surgery.

Dr. Özden graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1999 and completed his training in orthopedics and traumatology at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine, where he worked as a research assistant from 1999 to 2005. He then practiced at Acıbadem Bakırköy Hospital from 2005 to 2008, served at Elazığ Military Hospital Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology as a reserve officer in 2008, and has been based at the Maslak hospital since 2008. Since 2015 he has been affiliated with the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University. In 2019 he completed a European Hip Society Visiting Fellowship at Inselspital Bern, CHUV-Lausanne and SchulthessKlinik Zurich in Switzerland. He is a member of the European Hip Society, the AAOS American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (Affiliate International Member), the AAHKS American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Hip Knee Arthroplasty Association, TOTBID Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association, TOTDER Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association and TOTEK Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Education Council. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on total hip arthroplasty in hip dysplasia and high hip dislocation, cementless femoral stems, high-flexion inserts in knee replacement and periprosthetic infection rates.

Clinical focus

The core of Dr. Özden’s practice is the surgical care of hip and knee joint conditions. He performs hip replacement surgery and knee replacement surgery for patients whose joint disease has not responded adequately to other measures, and he assesses patients with osteoarthritis and other joint diseases to discuss whether joint replacement or a non-surgical approach is appropriate in their case. His published work reflects a particular interest in complex hip arthroplasty, including total hip arthroplasty in hip dysplasia and high hip dislocation.

Dr. Özden also uses robotic surgery techniques in joint replacement where appropriate, and his practice includes minimally invasive trauma surgery and the evaluation and treatment of meniscus tears. The choice of technique depends on the individual patient’s anatomy, condition and overall health, and is discussed during the consultation.
