Prof. Ali Tekin, MD

Prof. Ali Tekin, MD is a urologist at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Urology unit. He has more than 34 years in medicine. His clinical work covers urinary incontinence and bladder health, andrology and male reproductive health, the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases, robotic urologic surgery, urogynecology, urological oncology and pediatric urology.

Dr. Tekin graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1992 and completed his urology training at the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Urology in 1997, where he worked as a research assistant from 1992 to 1997 and as a lecturer from 1997 to 1999. In 1999 he completed training in uro-oncology at the same department. He then worked as a urology specialist at GATA Ankara (1999–2000) and at the S.B. Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital Urology Clinic (2000–2003), where he became an associate professor in 2003 and remained until 2007. From 2007 to 2019 he was at the Düzce University Faculty of Medicine Department of Urology, receiving the title of professor in 2009. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2019. He is a member of the Turkish Urology Association, the Pediatric Urology Association, the Urological Surgery Association, the Minimally Invasive Urology Association, the Üroonkoloji Association and the European Association of Urology. His published work includes studies on prostate-specific antigen, prostatitis, laser treatment of benign prostate hyperplasia, bladder cancer, calcium urolithiasis in children and germ cell cancer of the testis.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Tekin’s practice concerns the prostate: the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases and the assessment and management of prostate cancer. Within urological oncology he also sees patients with bladder and kidney tumors. Robotic urologic surgery is one of his subspecialties, and he evaluates patients with kidney stones.

He also treats functional and reproductive conditions. These include bladder health and urinary incontinence, urogynecology, andrology and male reproductive health, and infertility. In addition, his practice includes pediatric urology. The appropriate approach in each case is decided after clinical assessment and review of the available findings.

How Dr. Tekin works with international patients

Dr. Tekin speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before travelling or as part of follow-up.
