Assoc. Prof. Ayşe Ebru Bahadır, MD

Assoc. Prof. Ayşe Ebru Bahadır, MD is an ophthalmologist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Ophthalmology unit. She has more than 22 years in medicine. Her clinical work covers cataract, smart lens procedures, glaucoma, astigmatism, amblyopia and blepharitis, as well as paediatric eye conditions, eye allergies, ocular migraine and eye twitching. She sees both adult and paediatric patients with a range of visual and eye health concerns.

Dr. Bahadır graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2004. In 2009 she spent time at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, and in 2010 she completed her specialist training at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital Department of Ophthalmology. From 2010 to 2013 she worked at Hendek Devlet Hospital, and in 2013 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services, where she has practised since. In 2017 she became a Fellow of European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). She is a member of the Türk Oftalmoloji Association and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Clinical focus

A significant part of Dr. Bahadır’s practice is the assessment and management of smart lens procedures and cataract. Patients presenting with clouding of the natural lens or with refractive concerns are examined to determine whether lens-based treatment is a suitable option, and the possible approaches are discussed in the context of the individual’s eye health and visual needs. She also evaluates and treats astigmatism, a refractive condition that may be addressed alongside other eye conditions when appropriate.

Dr. Bahadır manages glaucoma, a condition that requires careful monitoring of intraocular pressure and the optic nerve over time. Her practice further includes paediatric eye conditions and amblyopia, in which early assessment of a child’s vision is central to planning care. In addition, she sees patients with blepharitis (eyelid inflammation), eye allergies, eye twitching and ocular migraine, conditions in which a careful history and clinical examination help to distinguish between possible causes before any treatment is considered.

How Dr. Bahadır works with international patients

Dr. Bahadır consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the hospital’s international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as previous eye examination findings, imaging reports, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit itself. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination of the eyes and a discussion of the available options. For patients who are not yet able to travel, video consultation is offered as an initial step, allowing Dr. Bahadır to review the case and discuss whether an in-person examination is advisable.
