Dr. Buket Ayoğlu

Dr. Buket Ayoğlu is an ophthalmologist who sees patients at Acibadem Fulya Hospital and Acibadem Etiler Outpatient Clinic in İstanbul. She works within the Ophthalmology unit and provides care for patients with eye conditions including cataract, glaucoma, myopia, astigmatism and keratoconus. Her clinical interests also include smart lens procedures for patients who are being evaluated for lens-based vision correction.

Dr. Ayoğlu graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1984 and completed her specialization at the İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology in 1989. She has more than 42 years of experience in medicine and has been working with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2021. Clinical focus

Dr. Ayoğlu’s clinical work concentrates on conditions that affect the lens, the cornea and the optic nerve. She evaluates patients with cataract, in which the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, and advises on whether and when surgery may be appropriate. Her interests include smart lens procedures, in which the natural lens is replaced with an intraocular lens. Whether such a lens is suitable depends on the individual patient’s eye measurements, expectations and overall eye health, all of which are reviewed before any decision is made.

Dr. Ayoğlu also manages glaucoma, a condition in which pressure inside the eye can damage the optic nerve and where regular monitoring is important. She sees patients with refractive errors such as myopia and astigmatism, discussing correction options in light of each patient’s examination findings. In patients with keratoconus, a progressive thinning and steepening of the cornea, she assesses the stage of the condition and discusses management approaches that aim to preserve vision. Treatment recommendations in all of these areas are individualized and depend on the clinical examination and diagnostic measurements; not every option is appropriate for every patient.

How Dr. Ayoğlu works with international patients

Dr. Ayoğlu consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example previous eye examination records, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit itself. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing records and previous treatments, a clinical eye examination and a discussion of the possible options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their condition or review findings with Dr. Ayoğlu before or after travelling.
