Prof. Bülent Soyupak, MD

Prof. Bülent Soyupak, MD is a urologist at Acibadem Adana Hospital in Adana. He works in the Urology unit, and his subspecialty areas include robotic surgery, andrology (male reproductive health), the treatment of sexual dysfunction, the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases, the treatment of urethral diseases and urogynecology. He has more than 52 years in medicine.

Dr. Soyupak attended Tarsus Amerikan High School from 1974 to 1981 and graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1987. After a period at SSK Kars Dispanseri (1987–1988), he worked as a research assistant in the Çukurova Universitesi Faculty of Medicine, Department of Urology from 1988 to 1993 and completed his urology specialization in 1993 (İnönü University Faculty of Medicine). He spent time at the University of Georgetown, Department of Urology, Washington DC, USA (1990–1991) and at the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Urology, Philadelphia, USA (1995). From 1993 to 2011 he served as a professor in the Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine Department of Urology, and he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2009. He is a member of the Urological Surgery Association, Turkish Medical Association, Çukurova Urology Association, Turkish Urology Association, Üroonkoloji Association, European Urology Association and American Urology Association. His published work includes studies on intravesical epirubicin after resection of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, CA9 expression as a prognostic factor in renal clear cell carcinoma, ureteroscopy and ureterolithotripsy, public awareness of testicular cancer, and experimental research on bladder muscle function.

Clinical focus

Dr. Soyupak’s clinical work covers a broad range of adult urology, with a particular focus on robotic urologic surgery and urologic oncology. He evaluates and treats kidney diseases, including kidney cancer, kidney stones and hydronephrosis, as well as bladder cancer and prostate cancer. Patients with hematuria (blood in the urine) may be assessed to identify the underlying cause, and diagnostic procedures such as cystoscopy may be used where appropriate.

In andrology, he sees men with male infertility and provides sexual dysfunction treatment. He also manages sexually transmitted infections, urethral diseases and urogynecological and pelvic floor conditions. Treatment recommendations, including whether robotic surgery is suitable, are made after individual assessment and depend on the diagnosis, the stage of disease and the patient’s general health.

How Dr. Soyupak works with international patients

Dr. Soyupak consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
