Prof. Emre Toğrul, MD

Prof. Emre Toğrul, MD is an Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology specialist who sees patients at Acibadem Adana Hospital and Acibadem Adana Orthopedia Hospital in Adana, within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. Dr. Toğrul graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1987 and completed his specialty training in Orthopedics and Traumatology at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine in 1993. His early career included compulsory service as a general practitioner at Sorgun State Hospital in Yozgat (1987–1988) and, after his specialty training, as an Orthopedics and Traumatology specialist at Kırıkhan State Hospital in Hatay (1993–1994). His academic career developed in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine, where he was a research assistant (1988–1993), a lecturer (1994–1996) and an associate professor (1999–2004) before being appointed professor in 2005. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023.

Clinical focus

A substantial part of Dr. Toğrul’s practice concerns degenerative joint disease. He assesses and treats patients with osteoarthritis and other joint diseases, and performs hip replacement and knee replacement surgery when conservative measures are no longer sufficient. Robotic surgery is among his subspecialty interests. In trauma care, his areas of expertise include minimally invasive trauma surgery, and his areas of care also extend to osteoporosis and muscle tears.

Dr. Toğrul also works in orthopedic oncology, evaluating and treating bone tumors, and in spasticity surgery, including the surgical management of pediatric spasticity. His pediatric orthopedic work further covers clubfoot, flatfoot and pediatric bone cysts. As with any surgical decision, the suitability of a given procedure depends on the individual patient’s findings, and treatment options are discussed after clinical assessment.

How Dr. Toğrul works with international patients

Dr. Toğrul consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The hospital’s international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the possible options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to have an initial discussion or a review of their case before deciding whether to travel; any subsequent treatment plan is confirmed only after an in-person examination.
