Prof. Faruk Buyru, MD

Prof. Faruk Buyru, MD is a specialist in Gynecology & Obstetrics at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul. Dr. Buyru graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1983 and completed his compulsory service (Zorunlu Hizmet) in Hatay Samandağ between 1983 and 1985. He then completed his specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1990. From 1990 to 1996 he was a Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynecology at İstanbul University Faculty of Medicine, and in 1993 he undertook operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy training in Antwerp, Belgium. He became an Associate Professor in 1996 and a Professor in 2002. He has worked with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2008.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Buyru’s work is the management of endometriosis, including the treatment of ovarian endometrioma. He evaluates and treats menstrual irregularities and polycystic ovary syndrome, and he provides infertility treatment within the reproductive medicine setting. His gynecological practice also includes hysterectomy and the diagnosis and management of ectopic pregnancy. His training in operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy is relevant to the surgical aspects of this work. The approach for each condition depends on the individual patient’s findings, symptoms and goals, and is decided after clinical assessment rather than in advance.

In obstetrics, Dr. Buyru provides pregnancy follow-up through to delivery, and his practice covers epidural delivery, cesarean delivery and water birth. He also offers menopause care, including the assessment of symptoms and a discussion of the available options. Where a patient’s situation involves both fertility and gynecological questions, evaluation is coordinated with the In Vitro Fertilization and Reproductive Medicine Center so that the different aspects of care can be considered together.

How Dr. Buyru works with international patients

Dr. Buyru consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients and may be used for an initial discussion or a review of existing reports; whether an in-person visit is needed is determined on the basis of that review and the individual clinical situation.
