Prof. Dr. Reha Baran

Prof. Dr. Reha Baran is a Pulmonary Medicine specialist working in the Pulmonology unit at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul. He has more than 40 years in medicine. Dr. Baran graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1986. He trained in Chest Diseases at Süreyyapaşa Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery Training and Research Hospital, where he worked as a Research Assistant from 1987 to 1991 and completed his specialty training in 1991. He continued at the same hospital as Chief Assistant (1991–1995), became an Associate Professor in 1995, and served as Clinical Chief from 1998 to 2010. During this period he also held the position of Chief Physician at Bezm-i Alem Valide Sultan Vakıf Gureba Training and Research Hospital (2001–2003) and worked in the Department of Chest Diseases at Anadolu Vakfı Private Johns Hopkins Hospital (2005–2006). He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2010. He is a member of the Toraks Association, the Turkish Respiratory Research Association, and the Akciğer Kanserleri Association. His co-authored publications cover topics such as long-term biomass fuel exposure and ventricular function, nosocomial Candida infection in a respiratory intensive care unit, ventilation strategies in COPD patients with acute respiratory failure, extrapulmonary tuberculosis, and bronchoscopic diagnosis of unusual lesions.

Clinical focus

Dr. Baran evaluates and manages a range of respiratory conditions. These include asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia and other lower respiratory tract infections, pulmonary embolism, and other forms of lung disease such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pulmonary fibrosis. Smoking cessation is a particular area of interest, and he supports patients who want to stop smoking as part of their overall respiratory care.

His practice also includes the evaluation of lung nodules and thoracic malignancies, including lung cancer, other thoracic cancers, and mesothelioma. He performs bronchoscopy and EBUS (endobronchial ultrasound) as diagnostic procedures where clinically indicated. Findings from these examinations are considered together with imaging and the patient’s history before a management plan is discussed.

How Dr. Baran works with international patients
