Prof. Salih Serdar Erturan, MD

Prof. Salih Serdar Erturan, MD is a Pulmonary Medicine specialist working in the Pulmonology unit at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. With more than 39 years in medicine, his clinical work covers diagnostic and interventional bronchoscopy, including EBUS, as well as the assessment and management of lung nodules, lung cancer and other thoracic cancers, chronic airway diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lower respiratory tract infections and pulmonary embolism.

Dr. Erturan graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1987 and completed his specialization in Chest Diseases at the same faculty in 1993. He worked at S.B. Heybeliada Sanatoryumu from 1993 to 1997 and at the İstanbul University Institute of Pulmonary Diseases and Tuberculosis from 1997 to 1998. From 1998 to 2018 he was a member of the Department of Chest Diseases at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, where he became an Associate Professor in 2006 and a Professor in 2014. Between 2009 and 2013 he served as Deputy Chief Physician of İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Hospital, and from 2015 to 2018 he was a member of the Ministry of Justice Council of Forensic Medicine III. Specialization Board. He practiced at Medicana Bahçelievler Hospital from 2019 to 2020 and joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2021. He is a member of the Turkish Respiratory Research Association, the Türk Toraks Association and the Academic Respiratory Association.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Erturan’s practice is the evaluation of findings in the lungs and chest. This includes the assessment of lung cancer and other thoracic cancers, and the follow-up of lung nodules identified on imaging. Bronchoscopy and EBUS (endobronchial ultrasound) are used where appropriate to examine the airways and to obtain tissue samples from the lungs or nearby lymph nodes, which can help clarify a diagnosis and guide further decisions together with other specialties.

He also manages a broad range of pulmonary diseases. These include chronic airway conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, and pulmonary embolism. The approach in each case depends on the individual patient’s history, symptoms and test results.

How Dr. Erturan works with international patients

Dr. Erturan consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as CT, X-ray or MRI reports, laboratory and pathology results, previous bronchoscopy findings, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and respiratory symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options.
