Uygar Cenik, MD

Uygar Cenik, MD is a Pulmonary Medicine specialist in the Pulmonology unit of Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul. Dr. Cenik graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine, where he studied from 1989 to 1996, and completed his specialty training in Pulmonary Diseases at the same faculty in 2004. From 1999 to 2005 he worked in the Department of Pulmonary Diseases and Tuberculosis at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine. He subsequently held positions as a Pulmonary Diseases and Tuberculosis Specialist at İstanbul Private Gaziosmanpaşa Hospital (2004–2005), Private Çapa Hospital (2005–2007), Private JFK Hospital (2007–2009), and Private İstanbul Medipol Hospital (2009–2010), before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2010. He is a member of the Toraks Association, the Turkish Respiratory Research Association, the Turkish Sleep Medicine Association, the Akciğer Kanserleri Association, the European Respiratory Society, and the Turkish Medical Association İstanbul Medical Chamber.

Clinical focus

Dr. Cenik’s practice covers a range of respiratory conditions. He evaluates and treats pneumonia and other lower respiratory tract infections, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which are common reasons for referral to a pulmonologist. He also assesses patients with suspected or confirmed pulmonary embolism. In the field of thoracic oncology, he is involved in the investigation of lung nodules and in the diagnosis and management of lung cancer and other thoracic cancers, work that is typically carried out in coordination with other specialties.

A further part of his work relates to sleep and lifestyle. Dr. Cenik performs polysomnography, a sleep study used in the investigation of sleep-related disorders. Within the Smoke-Free Life subspecialty, he provides smoking cessation support for patients who wish to stop smoking, an approach that is relevant to the prevention and management of many lung diseases. Treatment plans are drawn up for each patient after clinical assessment, and the appropriate approach depends on the individual diagnosis and circumstances.

How Dr. Cenik works with international patients

Dr. Cenik consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
