Prof. Çağlar Çuhadaroğlu, MD

Prof. Çağlar Çuhadaroğlu, MD is a Pulmonary Medicine specialist in the Pulmonology unit of Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. His subspecialty is the treatment of sleep disorders, and he has more than 41 years in medicine. His clinical work covers sleep disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnea, as well as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary fibrosis, lower respiratory tract infections, lung nodules, lung cancer and other thoracic cancers. His procedural work includes bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS).

Dr. Çuhadaroğlu studied medicine at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine from 1985 to 1991 and completed his specialty training in the Department of Chest Diseases of the same faculty between 1991 and 1995, qualifying in Chest Diseases in 1996. In 1993 he trained at the Edinburgh University National Sleep Center. He worked in the Department of Chest Diseases at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine from 1995 to 2009, where he became an Associate Professor in 2004. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2009 and was appointed Professor at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine in 2010. He is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), the American Thoracic Society (ATS), the Türk Toraks Association and Uykuder, among other organizations. His published research has addressed topics including the effects of nasal CPAP treatment on insulin resistance and lipid profile in sleep apnea, endothelial function in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, the concordance of manual and automatic sleep staging, and sleep apnea in adult myotonic dystrophy patients.

Clinical focus

A substantial part of Dr. Çuhadaroğlu's practice is devoted to sleep medicine. He evaluates and manages insomnia, sleep apnea and other sleep disorders. Assessment is based on the patient's history, symptoms and existing test results, and treatment is planned according to the individual situation.

In general pulmonology, he treats asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary fibrosis and lower respiratory tract infections, and follows patients with chronic pulmonary disease. He also evaluates lung nodules and lung cancer and other thoracic cancers. Bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) are part of his diagnostic work and can support the evaluation of lung nodules and thoracic tumors.
