Clinical focus

A substantial part of Dr. Apaydın’s practice concerns the evaluation of lung and thoracic cancers, lung nodules and mesothelioma. Lung nodules are often found incidentally on imaging, and his role is to review the existing scans, weigh the likelihood of a benign or malignant cause, and advise on whether observation with follow-up imaging or further investigation is appropriate. Where tissue sampling or direct inspection of the airways is needed, he performs bronchoscopy, a procedure in which a thin, flexible instrument is passed into the airways to examine them and, if required, obtain samples. Findings are then discussed with the patient together with the available options.

Dr. Apaydın also manages a range of chronic and acute airway and lung diseases. These include asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), where the aim is to confirm the diagnosis, review current medication and reduce the frequency of symptoms and flare-ups. He assesses and treats lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, and evaluates patients with suspected or confirmed pulmonary embolism. Because tobacco use contributes to many of these conditions, smoking cessation is a regular part of his consultations, and he discusses this with patients as part of their overall respiratory care.

How Dr. Apaydın works with international patients

Dr. Apaydın consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as CT, X-ray or MRI reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
